WE'LL NEVER FORGET WHAT WE CAN'T REMEMBER!
MONDAY! Oh yeah Baby! Life on the 2008 Riding4Beer Fall Campaign is rough - but worth it! Saturday night here in the New Orleans (remember that far back?) dissolved in a blur of beer, the LSU game on pirated TV cable and seeing our friends that own the local dog racing track. That’s right, Bob’s out of the “Big House” (illegal use of an interstate telecommunications device – how do you get arrested for using a phone?), he’s back running the track and now his wife Lee can get back to running her 900 number sports line. On the campaign you meet the nicest people!
In the meantime there are other issues here in the projects. As you all know, out in Palm Springs we live in a trailer park but in New Orleans we have a rent controlled room in the state projects. Anyway, we used to get internet service by tapping into the line that runs to the security office but the recent storms and hurricanes has pretty much flooded out our access to the underground crawlspace soooooo, this is coming to you from a public “internet cafe” in the French Quarter. Okay, the word “cafe” is really a misnomer. It’s actually a bar that serves beer nuts and slim Jim’s, it’s filled with a bunch of Korean War navy veterans drinking “breakfast” and the cocktail waitress makes most of her income selling refined Sterno as a methadone substitute. You just gotta love the French Quarter.
Yesterday we wandered the streets meeting the voters face to face and talking about the bailout bill in Congress. We’re pretty excited about getting some that Federal money ourselves and paying down a few bills. Let’s see, in addition to the sub-prime loan on our trailer in California that’s in default we’d also like to at least cover the action on our losing Oakland Raiders bets with “Big” Lou and pay up our tab at a few bars. It’s “trickle down” down economics at it’s best and most of the people we spoke with have similar bills that need attention. Here’s our offer to Congress: KEEP ON BAILING AND WE’LL KEEP ON SPENDING AND DRINKIN’…
